Abstract

PUPO AVILA, Noria Liset; HECHAVARRIA TOLEDO, Suiberto  and  ALEMANY PEREZ, Eduardo Joaquín. Health promotion in the program of the integral general medicine specialty in Cuba. Educ Med Super [online]. 2015, vol.29, n.4, pp. 742-752. ISSN 1561-2902.

With the objective of assessing the consistency of the health promotion in the curriculum of the integral general medicine specialty in Cuba with the fundamentals and needs of the primary health care, and of evaluation the integration of health promotion into the curriculum, an internal curricular evaluation research was carried out in which documentary analysis, surveys, description and triangulation of information were used. It was shown that there is a favorable political framework to develop the health promotion but the curriculum is not sufficiently consistent with the present needs of the health system and the international tendencies. The integration of the health promotion fails to have adequate differentiated conceptualization of the risk approach and the health promotion; the integration of the topic into the curriculum modules is poor, isolated and barely articulated. Abilities predominate over the curative actions and the health promotion module has deficiencies in its design.

Keywords : health promotion; integral general medicine; curriculum.
