Abstract

HERNANDEZ SILVA, Juan R. et al. Results of phacoemulsification in 4 years of experience. Rev Cubana Oftalmol [online]. 2004, vol.17, n.2, pp. 0-0. ISSN 1561-3070.

A descriptive and retrospective study of all the 1 050 eyes operated on of presenile and senile cataract was conducted. The following variables were studied: age, visual acuity with refractive cylinder correction, induced refractive astigmatism and complications. The mean absolute and relative frequencies were calculated and the Student test was applied for comparing means with matched data. 36 % of the cases were aged 41-50 and 24.2 % were over 60. The most used PHACO technique was pre chop. Patients presented an average preoperative visual acuity with glasses of 0.4. A postsurgical result of 0.8 was obtained. Astigmatism induced by surgery was 0.29 diopters and the average PHACO time used was 1.45. It was observed a prevalence of postsurgical complications starting from the moderate keratitis. The opercula predominated in the case of the transoperative complications.
