OBJECTIVE: To identify the effects on the corneal endothelium of Artisan phakic intraocular lens implantation for the high myopia correction at "Ramón Pando Ferrer" Cuban Institute of Ophthalmology from January 2006 to July 2007. METHODS: A prospective descriptive study was performed on 17 eyes which underwent Artisan phakic intraocular lens implantation for high myopia correction. RESULTS: Endotelial cell loss was 4,6% and no significant variations were found in variation coefficient and hexagonality. CONCLUSIONS: Endotelial cell loss was low after one year of surgery. The variation coefficient and hexagonality did not show any significant changes.
