Abstract

FERNANDEZ ARGONES, Liamet et al. Have we made advances in the medical treatment of glaucoma?. Rev Cubana Oftalmol [online]. 2010, vol.23, n.1, pp. 145-155. ISSN 1561-3070.

The ideal medical treatment for glaucoma, which can be used for all types of glaucoma and in every patient for halting the progression of glaucomatous damage, is yet to be discovered. An updated literature review was made to describe the mechanism of action, the dosing and the side effects of ocular hypotensive drugs. Research works aimed at finding new long-lasting hypotensive effect drugs and those aspects related to neuroprotection were underscored.

Keywords : pharmacologic group; mechanism of action; side effects; neuroprotection.
