The physical disability is a frequent health problem in the elderly that limits their quality of life. To estimate this prevalence in the older people from "Amancio Rodríguez" and "Jobabo" municipalities during the first semester of 1999, a descriptive study was conducted. Through a multistage stratified sampling, 557 aged people were selected. Date were taken from a mental status mini-test, Lawton´s index and a survey containing biological psychological and biological variables. Data processing included rate and percentage estimation. A physical disability of 44.5% was observed. The main limitations for the daily life activities were: doing shopping, food preparation, and mode of transport. The most prevailing biopsychological factors were increase of age, female sex, illiteracy, lost social role, feeling of inactivity and feeling of loneliness.
