Abstract

The work done by the famous Swiss doctor and historian, who lived in North America since the 1930s and founded the modern school of sociological analysis of the history of medicine is dealt with. His teaching and research activity at Johns Hopkins University, his early vision of the Soviet medicine and the task of spreading it in the Western world are approached here. His condition as an initiator of the currents of social medicine in the United States and as an outstanding personality in the world of teaching and research within this field of sciences is also shown in this paper.
