Abstract

HERNANDEZ, Jorge Román. Estrés y Burnout en profesionales de la salud de los niveles primario y secundario de atención. Rev Cubana Salud Pública [online]. 2003, vol.29, n.2, pp. 103-110. ISSN 1561-3127.

A cross-sectional study on stress and Burnout is carried out on 287 health professionals in a municipe of the city of Havana. Surveyed professionals were physicians and nurses from both first and second health care levels, and they answered to three questionnaires: the Moreno’s Brief Burnout Questionnaire, the Aro’s Stress Symptoms Scale and the Wolfgang’s Health Professions Stress Questionnaire. It was hypothesized that health care level was positively associated with stress symptoms and Burnout. Another hypothesis was that low professional reward was associated with stress symptoms and Burnout. Both hypothesis were confirmed. The prevalence of Burnout in the totality of subjects was lightly higher than 30 % and the prevalence of stress symptoms, 50 %. Burnout was higher in female physicians of the primary care level while stress symptoms were more frequent among female nurses of the same care level
