Abstract

DELGADO GARCIA, Gregorio. Historical background of the primary health care in Cuba. Rev Cubana Salud Pública [online]. 2005, vol.31, n.2, pp. 0-0. ISSN 1561-3127.

The modern concept of primary health care as well as its possible history originated from the models of ambulatory medical care that existed in the colonial and the republican bourgeois periods of our history are briefly analyzed in this paper. The organization of the public health care in Cuba in the first quarter of the 19th century was presented along with the description of the state-supported ambulatory health care models based on the Weekly physician and First Aid houses (Casas de Socorro)
