Abstract

ESPINOSA BRITO, Alfredo. Social formation of the physician. Rev Cubana Salud Pública [online]. 2005, vol.31, n.4, pp. 0-0. ISSN 1561-3127.

Although there has always been clear awareness of the need of quality formation of our professionals in clinical medicine, the situation has been different in social medicine. Based on the Commander Ernesto Che Guevara´s ideas, this paper advocates for the comprehensive global and holistic biopsychological paradigm where health is not only one of the most important values to be carefully watched for but also the result of a complex process in which all of us participate. It is required to attain an increasingly better balance between the formation and location of the staff and the resources available for medical care, and those allocated to health prevention and promotion, in response to old and new health problems that our citizens face, which are identified in participatory and systematic analyses of the health situation in every place

Keywords : social medicine; medical education; medical university; biopsychosocial paradigm; health determinants; Che Guevara.
