TORRES ESPERON, Julia Maricela; LOZANO LEFRAN, Anabel and RODRIGUEZ WASHINGTON, Noralydis. Formation of promoters of gender equity since childhood. Rev Cubana Salud Pública [online]. 2013, vol.39, suppl.1, pp. 893-902. ISSN 0864-3466.
Introduction: it is important that children acquire knowledge about gender equity through activities inherent to their age, with a view to turning them into multipliers of such knowledge in their group of study, homes and communities, and as a way of preparing them prior to sexual education at adolescence. Objective: to show the experiences accumulated in the formation of promoters of gender equity since childhood. Methods: qualitative study of research/participatory action conducted in "Felipe Poey Aloy" elementary and junior high school located in Plaza de la Revolucion municipality in Havana. The study group was made up of 36 students aged 7 to 11 years, selected by non-probabilistic sampling and intention criteria. Social communication and literature workshops were held. For data analysis, the observations and the study subjects' voices were textually transcribed and data were reduced to categories of analysis. Results: girls and boys drafted educational materials and posters about the topic, which they use to give talks in the classroom; a writing contest was held in which the winners were selected and the final results were shown in the 4 of April activity for the pioneer's organization anniversary. Conclusions: the usefulness of the gender approach from childhood was confirmed by using a fresh way of integrating literary work, social communication and games to attain such objective.
