Abstract

MARTINEZ TRUJILLO, Nelcy  and  TORRES ESPERON, Maricela. Interdisciplinarity in nursing and the possibilities of implementation in Cuba. Rev Cubana Salud Pública [online]. 2014, vol.40, n.1, pp. 85-95. ISSN 0864-3466.

Interdisciplinarity means the enrichment of a discipline with the knowledge from other disciplines and helps to addressing complex problems that would be impossible to deal with by just using the unitary focus. It particularly allows nursing, beyond the inherent referents of the profession and the customized care, to identify evidence for practice in its performance areas like assistance, teaching, research and administration, as well as the involvement of nursing professionals in the multidisciplinary groups, in order to solve the public health problems. This article was aimed at presenting the contribution that the implementation of the interdisciplinary approach can make to nursing, describing the practical and methodological challenges that these professionals must meet in applying these integrated referents, and analyzing some examples of academic formations which support the initial approximation of the graduates to materialization of such an approach. The implementation of interdisciplinarity by the nursing professionals may help to consolidate the young nursing science and health care nursing in Cuba.

Keywords : interdisciplinarity; nursing.
