Abstract
JIMENEZ, L.C and DEL POZO, E. PATHOGENICITY, VIRULENCE AND REPRODUCTIVE POTENTIAL OF Heterorhabditis bacteriophora (STRAIN HC1) ON Cylas formicarius var. elegantulus (SUMMERS). Rev. Protección Veg. [online]. 2010, vol.25, n.2, pp. 113-118. ISSN 2224-4697.
The pathogenicity and virulence of the strain HC1 of the entomopatogenic nematode Heterorhabditis bacteriophora Poinar (Summer) was evaluated on Cylas formicarius var elegantulus in the laboratory. The nematode pathogenicity, taking into account the insect mortality, was evaluated in a completely randomized design with four repetitions using a concentration of 1000 JI.mL-1 and a control. A similar experimental design with the same number of repetitions was used to evaluate the virulence using five concentrations of JI. The reproductive potential of the nematode on the insect were also evaluated. In this conditions, a significant pathogenic effect of the nematode on the insect was found with high mortality percentages; the virulence DL50 y TL50 was closely related to the concentration of JI.mL-1. The reproductive potential of the nematode on the insect could reach 2675 JI/insect with an average of 1832.
