Abstract
GONZALEZ, C and SURIS, Moraima. BEHAVIOUR OF THRIPS POPULATIONS ON THREE SPECIES OF SOLANACEAE IN DIFFERENT CROP SYSTEMS. Rev. Protección Veg. [online]. 2011, vol.26, n.2, pp. 92-99. ISSN 1010-2752.
In Cuba, although the number of records of new species of thrips has increased in the last years, it is true that it is still necessary to study the fauna of this group of insects and specially their incidence on the crops including the solanaceas. For detecting the presence of thrips on this group of plants in three crop systems, three botanical species (eggplant , pepper and tomato) were sampled in Havana province in 2003 and 2004. Specimens were collected by striking the plants over a white cardboard and adults cleared and mounted on slides; for identification, a regional taxonomic key was used. Results showed the presence of three species of thrips on eggplant, eight on pepper and 12 on tomato. The crop systems were compared according to the density of thrips. The total number of individuals on eggplant and tomato variety Lignon was significantly favored by the open field system compared with the organoponic and protected crop systems; however, the total number of individuals on pepper was significantly higher in the protected crop system, specifically for the variety FA-10.
