FIRST RECORD OF HOST PLANT OF Neohydatothrips basilaris HOOD (THYSANOPTERA: THRIPIDAE) IN CUBA
PRIMER REGISTRO DE PLANTA HOSPEDERA DE Neohydatothrips basilaris HOOD (THYSANOPTERA: THRIPIDAE) EN CUBA
Dear Sir:
As a result of a study of thysanopterans fauna in a protected ecosystem in San José de las Lajas, individuals of the species Neohydatothrips basilaris Hood were found very abundant on leaves of the species plant Eupartorium odoratum L., belonging to the family Compositaceae. This species of thrips was reported for the first time in Cuba by Alayo in1980, but its host plant was not reporter by the author.
Thus it is considered a first record of this plant as host for the insect.
The specimens were processed and mounted using conventional techniques and identified at the Agrarian University of Havana.
