Abstract

BALMASEDA, C  and  ROMERO, Madelin. Development of a geographic information system for phytosanitary management in sugar cane (Saccharum spp.) production. Rev. Protección Veg. [online]. 2012, vol.27, n.3, pp. 206-209. ISSN 1010-2752.

Crop protection of sugar cane requires the application of modern tools and technological procedures with the purpose of maintaining the surveillance and facilitating the decision making process in the phytosanitary control. A geographic information system (GIS) was developed taking as cartographic base the specialized cadastre of the company. The conceptual model developed shows the relationships that exist among the variables considered by the specialists in Crop Protection. As part of the GIS, and with the objective of exemplifying how the work of the technicians is facilitated, a sequence of instructions was developed (Script) to determine the rates of liberation of Lixophaga diatraeae Towns. in each block and its spatial representation in an attribute map. With this GIS, a deficiency of the Phytosanitary Service is replaced by a cartographic alternative.

Keywords : geographic information system; Lixophaga diatraea; Diatraea saccharalis; Cuba.
