Abstract

CEBALLOS VAZQUEZ, Margarita; LELLANI BANOS, Heyker; CHICO, Reinaldo  and  MARTINEZ, María de los A.. Presence in Cuba of natural enemies of the pink hibiscus mealybug (Maconellicoccus hirsutus Green). Rev. Protección Veg. [online]. 2016, vol.31, n.1, pp. 77-80. ISSN 2224-4697.

In exploratory samplings carried out on plants of hibiscus (Hibiscus rosa-sinensis L) and mulberry (Morus alba L.) in the provinces of Havana and Mayabeque during the months of June and July 2013, the presence of parasitoids of the Superfamily Chalcidoidea was detected on the pink hibiscus mealybug Maconellicoccus hirsutus (Green). The samples were taken to the Laboratory of Entomology of the National Center for Agricultural Health (CENSA), where they were examined and the parasitized scale insects isolated in Petri dishes until the emergence of adult parasitoids. These were mounted on microscope slides in Hoyer´s medium and classified by using the appropriate taxonomic keys. The parasitoids found were Anagyrus californicus (Compere), Leptomastix dactylopii Howard, and Prochiloneurus sp., all belonging to the family Encyrtidae. It is considered that the study of native parasitoids capable of parasitizing M. hirsutus is a contribution to knowledge in the management of this species.

Keywords : natural enemies; Encyrtidae; Maconelliccocus hirsutus (Green).
