Abstract

MARTINEZ, Maria A.; CASAMAYOR, Meinly; TORO, Marbelys del  and  DUARTE, Leticia. Biology and population parameters of Myzus persicae nicotianae (Blackman) (Hemiptera: Aphididae) on the black tobacco cultivar cv. ´Corojo 2006´. Rev. Protección Veg. [online]. 2018, vol.33, n.3 ISSN 2224-4697.

In the present study, the biological and population attributes of Myzus persicae nicotianae (Blackman) (Hemiptera: Aphididae), known as the red tobacco aphid, were studied under laboratory conditions at 25.41 ± 0, 14⁰C and 63.4 ± 0.71% relative humidity. The nymphal period; the development cycle; the pre-reproductive, reproductive, and post-reproductive periods; longevity; life cycle; survival; as well as the average fecundity (number of nymphs / female) and the number of batches per female were determined in a cohort of 50 individuals obtained from a mesh greenhouse. An equal number of nymphs collected from chard were also placed on tobacco leaves in Petri dishes to confirm the development of M. persicae Sulzer on tobacco. The biological indicators of M. persicae nicotianae showed a duration of the nymphal period of 4 days, development cycle of 6 days and a life cycle of 15.5 days. The mean fertility was 3.34 nymphs / female / day, with a total mean fertility of 23.4 nymphs / female, and the survival described a type I curve and, from the day 12, the curve resembled a type II curve. The population parameters of the species: intrinsic rate of increase (rm), net reproduction rate (Ro), generation time (T) and doubling time (D) were 0.19, 23.32, 16.21 and 3.56 respectively. The individuals of Myzus persicae Sulzer taken from chard did not reproduce on tobacco.

Keywords : demographic parameters; life cycle; Nicotiana tabacum; red tobacco aphid; tobacco.
