Abstract

The behaviour of scientific production in the area of the Library Science and Information Sciences in Cuba was analyzed. To this end, the journals Ciencias de la Información, published by the Institute of Scientific and Technological Information, and Acimed, published by Infomed, were studied from 2005 to 2008. The production of both journals is analyzed from the metric perspective, through the application of production and collaboration indicators. These indicators show the current trend and perspective of both disciplines in our country, as well as the indexes of international, national (provinces) and municipal collaboration of the institutions. For the analysis of the data End Note X1, Excel, Bibexcel and Ucinet 6.0 were used. Of the studied period, the year 2007 was the most productive. The Faculty of Communication of Havana University, the National Centre of Medical Sciences Information and the Institute of Scientific and Technological Information are the institutions with the highest scientific production. The information management was the most prolific topic. There is a close collaboration between the authors and the most productive institutions. The scientific categories of the authors and the predominant gender in the sample were analyzed.
