Abstract

This paper intends to give a general overview on English teaching for medical students who start their clinical clinical area studies in the cuban universities. It is about their needs, situation and learning needs. Its main goal is to analyze the English syllabi in use for English V and VI taking into account the students´point of view and assessing different curricula design approaches as wells as the necessary relationship among different subjects. The authors assess the students´interests and motivation at the moment of starting the clinical medicine studies and evaluate learning theories and syllabi designs in their specific situation. An example of a suitable syllabus according to their expectations has also been designed. The conclusion drawn by the authors is that the syllabi in use for English V and VI could be withdrawn and substituted by English for Specific purposes ones. That could give a more accurate response to the doctor´s to be actual needs.
