Abstract

A clinical early phase II open, non sequencial, non - randomized essay was carried out with 40 patients of both sex and older than 15 years, in the Dental Clinic of previsora Polyclinic during a period from march to october 1997 with the aim of presenting the effectiveness of honey use in the treatment of alveolitis as to pain intensity after one, 24, 48 and 72 hours; healing time and secondary reactions present. Two patients left the study, because they remained with the same clinical picture of alveolitis. This was taken into consideration in the final analysis for the evaluation as the treatment time increased and at 72 hours patients had no pain, 100% of them with moderate and mild pain and the 89,5% presented intense pain 95% of tehm had a favorable evaluation with four applications of honey and it was proved taht it is an effective, innocuous therapy for the partient, independently of the intensity of pain and type of alveolitis.
