Abstract

MORENO TELLEZ, Ela; ACOSTA VALDES, María Antonia; CASAS MORELL, Eloísa  and  ALONSO RODRIGUEZ, Dalyla. Fibrinogen: Index of cardiovascular risk in insulin dipendent diabetic children. AMC [online]. 2002, vol.6, n.4, pp. 391-397. ISSN 1025-0255.

Epidemiological studies show that fibrinogen should be considered a factor independent of the cardiovascular risk, it is advised about its determination in risk patients and in case of values over 300 mg/dl (3 g/l), adequate treatment should be initiated. A descriptive study on behavior of plasmatic levels of fibrinogen in 27 insulin -dependent diabetic children, 12 males and 12 females, assisted in the Endrocrinology service at Eduardo Agramonte Piña Provincial Pediatric Hospital of Camagüey, within the year 2001, their values were compared with those of a control group composed of 27 children, supposedly healty (by clinical and laboratory criteria), 11 males and 16 females and correlated, at the same time, with the results the determination of microalbuminuria for both groups, as an early predictor of cardiovascular risk. Fibrinogen concentrations were singnificantly higher in diabetic patients than in controls (patients; 3, 41±0, 62 g/l and controls; 2, 87 ±0, 34g/l). When analyzing these figures, according to the evolution time of the disease, they did not show differences statiscally significant. A 26 % (n=7) of patients presented microalbuminuria and it was negative in 100 % of the control group. For the statistic analysis we used the student test with a significance level of 0, 05.
