Abstract

We collected during four years records of all patients with thorax injury who were admitted in the Polywounded Ward at Manuel Ascunce Domenech Provincial Hospital, from january, 1996 to december, 1999. Variables such as sex, causes, type of injury, its relation with other regions affected, as well as the state at discharge of patients were analyzed. There was a prevalence of masculine sex as to femenine; age groups among 15 to 29 years 30 to 44 years were the most affected, injuries observed in a greater percentage were hemopneumothorax, multiple costal and cranial fractures and pneumothorax; abdominal injuries were the most associated to thorax injury; results obtained were compared with those of other authors.
