Abstract

ALVAREZ LOPEZ, Alejandro et al. Primary and malingnant osseus tumorous in children. Ten years study. AMC [online]. 2002, vol.6, suppl.1, pp. 711-719. ISSN 1025-0255.

A descriptive, cross-sectional retrospective study was performed in seven patients diagnosed and treated for malignant tumours, within the period of ten years from 1990 to 2000. Malignant tumours corresponded to only 3, 8 % of all primary osseus tumours.masculine sex prevailed over femenine from 71, 4 % to 28, 5 % respectively. Age group from 11 to 15 years presented the higher incidence with 57, 1 % in the masculine sex and 14, 2 % in the femenine classic osteosarcoma, type IIA prevailed with 71, 4 %. Pain constituded the main symptom with more than 85 %. The ocurrence of symptoms before three months influenced in 50 % of patients. The most frequent localization was found in the distal third of femur with 714 %. The size of the tumour that prevailed was that of more than five centimeters with 66, 6 %. All patients were treated with amputation or desarticulation followed by postoperatory chemotherapy. The lung was organ with higher incidence of metastasis. Survival up to five years was of 42, 8 %.
