Abstract

An obervational explicative longitudinal study was perormed in 120 patients with maxillofacial trauma selected for ambulatory surgery at "Manuel Ascunce Domenench"Provincial Hospital of Camagüey, from February 1998 to February 2001 with the aim of evaluating socioeconomic effect of this procedure, patients followed hospital mechanism instituted for the treatment of this surgical disease. The most frequent interventions were the reduction of orbitozigamatic (45.0 %) and nasal (38. 5 %) fractures, surgical and anesthetic procedures were succesful. Good final results were achieved in 90.8 % of cases, and complete satifaction in 95.1 %. Savings for the institution was $ 33633.73 MN, which shows the need for increasing this modality. Maxillofacial trauma may be treated ambulatory with saety, effectiveness and economy.
