Abstract

HERNANDEZ MOORE, Elizabeth; SANCHEZ AGUILAR, José Raúl; DELGADO MARIN, Neyda  and  OJEDA DIAZ, Orlando. Percutaneous peritoneal drainage in perforated necrotizing enteritis. AMC [online]. 2003, vol.7, n.1, pp. 92-100. ISSN 1025-0255.

The first case in our country of a very low birth weight neonate with perforated necrotizing enterocolitis, managed with peritoneal drainage, is presented. The surgical technique is described and the literature is reviewed, finding that peritoneal drainage is a therapeutic option in these tiny neonates, as a stabilizing measure before a laparotomy is undertaken, although it can be the definitive treatment in a reduced group of patients.

Keywords : NECROTIZING ENTEROCOLITIS [peritoneal drainage].
