Abstract

A descriptive study was conducted at the Geriatric Service of the Amalia Simoni General Hospital from April 2002 to March 2003 to assess sleep disorders in elderly patients. The sample was made up of 170 patients over 60 years, who, after having been admitted tour service, consented to be subjects for the research. Female patients prevailed; and so did the 70-79 age group coffee addiction prevailed; and so did insomnia among sleep disorders (71, 3 %); sleep time ranged from five to six hours (39, 4 %). A history of cardiovascular disease prevailed. Nitrazepan consumption prevailed among females. 4.55 were treated with alternative medicine (hologram therapy).
