Abstract

Background: Pregnancy in the adolescent from its beginning means risk for her health and her son, most of the times are not wanted pregnancies and therefore, doesn't go early to receive prenatal attention. Objective: To demonstrate the effectiveness of the educational intervention on pregnancy in the adolescence. Method: An educational intervention study in Santa Isabel Village of Petén-south western health area from Guatemala with its previous characterization was carried out, from January 1st to December 31st 2006. The universe of study belonged to 146 adolescents from both sexes, with ages between 10 and 19 years, previous informed consent. Knowledge before and after the intervention were explored and the obtained results were evaluated. Results: The age group that prevailed was the one from 16 to 17 years with 43,8%, with sexual couple without stability for 47,9%, the inadequate knowledge on the contraceptive methods and psychosocial risk factors prevailed. Conclusions: The applied educational intervention demonstrated to be effective.
