Abstract

GONZALEZ VIDAL, Elsie María; REVE SALAS, Lianis Graciela  and  BETANCOURT RODRIGUEZ, María del Carmen. Behavior of some variable hematológicas and biochemical in the anemia of the chronic illness. AMC [online]. 2012, vol.16, n.5, pp. 591-601. ISSN 1025-0255.

Background: anemia of chronic disease or chronic processes is a multifactorial disease that often coexists with iron deficiency, because of difficulty in iron reuse. It is the second most common cause of anemia in the world only surpassed by iron deficiency. Objective: to evaluate the behavior of hematological and biochemical variables in both groups to determine their usefulness in the differentiation of both modalities within this type of anemia.         Method: qualitative hematological variables were statistically analyzed using chi-squared test and as well as the quantitative ones also were studied, to biochemical parameters were applied the test of variance for the comparison of both groups. Linear correlation coefficient was established to compare the determination of serumal iron as dependent variable with hematological and biochemical variables. Results: in the case of biochemical variables there were no degrees of significance in its determination. Although the evaluated sample size was small, in this research was showed the usefulness of a biochemical variable as the determination of the lactic dehydrogenase enzyme and hematological variables to carry out the differentiation between anemia of chronic disease associated with mild or severe iron deficiency and the one no associated with iron deficiency.     Conclusions: the result of multiple linear regression analysis of quantitative hematological and biochemical variables demonstrated a high correlation between the decrease of serumal iron and the increase of serumal level of lactic dehydrogenase enzymes. New lines of research should be developed in the coming years to clarify situations related to diagnostic differentiation of various clinical diseases, which is essential from the medical point of view, because this determines the therapeutic behavior selection, as in the case of our research.
