Abstract

Accidents or unintentional injuries is considered a problem of global health and some the catalog as an epidemic reaching the whole world as are one of the main health problems of modern life so are descriptive, retrospective and longitudinal study was carried out in the Basic Health Unit of Manápolis, municipality of Rio Preto da Eva (jungle area), Amazonas State, Brazil from January 2014 to May 2016, in order to know the characteristics of patients who attended the accident consultation. The variables were determined: age, sex and causes of accident. For data collection, a form was created, which was designed to be processed by descriptive statistics, obtaining absolute and percentage numbers. The patients with accidents were 79 (6.16%) of the total population, there is a predominance of the male sex with 64.56% and the age groups with the highest prevalence were those between 15 and 29 years old (31.65%), predominated as causes of accidents, injuries by sharp objects (51.90%), incrustation in the skin of fishing hooks (20.25%) and burns (15.18%). The masculine sex constitutes the one of greater frequency of general form, the wounds by sharp instruments had more frequency. The active investigation of risk factors is of vital importance.
