Abstract

RODRIGUEZ CONSTANTIN, Alejandro et al. Transmission of the hepatitis C virus in patients polytransfused on hemodialysis . MEDISAN [online]. 2012, vol.16, n.11, pp. 1718-1723. ISSN 1029-3019.

A descriptive and cross-sectional study was carried out in 25 patients with terminal chronic renal failure treated with hemodialysis in "Dr. Juan Bruno Zayas Alfonso" General Teaching Hospital of Santiago de Cuba during 2006 in order to characterize the incidence of hepatitis C virus. Transfusions in males (65.4 %), those who suffered from the disease for more than five years and those that had been transfused in more than 10 times prevailed in the case material. There was a higher number of transfusions in patients who had more time on hemodyalisis. It is concluded that this virus has a high incidence in patients polytransfused.

Keywords : polytransfusion; hemodialysis; hepatitis C virus; chronic renal failure; secondary health care.
