Abstract

A cross sectional study of 200 aged men with diabetes mellitus type 2, classified in "Armando García Aspurú" Teaching Polyclinic in Santiago de Cuba and selected through a simple random sampling was carried out during the 2012, aimed at determining the hidden morbidity from metabolic syndrome, for which 2 or more criteria of the National Cholesterol Education Program should be accomplished. Mean and the standard deviation were calculated for the quantitative variables which comparison was carried out by means of the t Student test, and the absolute and relative frequencies for the qualitative variables, with established associations by means of the Chi-square test. The hidden morbidity of metabolic syndrome was of 51.1%, and of these patients affected 43.6% had an ischemic cardiopathy, so that it concluded that this syndrome is very frequent in aged adults with diabetes mellitus type 2.
