Abstract

A descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted to characterize the socio-demographic variables and the risk perception on HIV / AIDS in first- year medical students from the University of Medical Sciences of Villa Clara during the period February-May 2018. A questionnaire on these topics was applied to 60 students who made up the selected sample. Data were processed using the statistical package SPSS version 20. Low risk perception of HIV / AIDS prevailed (86.7 %). We can mention among the main causes: low level of information, vulnerability and perceived severity, in both genders. Female gender, 18 years, urban residence and low risk perception of HIV / AIDS prevailed in the selected sample, based on the identification of the results of its three indicators.
