LEON ZAMORA, Yippsy; AVILA SANCHEZ, Mario and ENRIQUEZ, Carialudy. Quality of life in primary caregivers of hemodialysis patients. Medicentro Electrónica [online]. 2020, vol.24, n.2, pp. 422-429. Epub Apr 01, 2020. ISSN 1029-3043.
Hemodialysis treatment in chronic kidney disease affects both the health and quality of life of patients and their caregivers. The aim of this research was to describe the socio-demographic characteristics and quality of life dimensions affected in primary caregivers. A descriptive, cross-sectional study was conducted on 63 caregivers; interviews and a Quality of Life Scale were applied. Women between 40 and 59 years old, spouses and those with an employment relationship were predominant. Primary caregivers had changes in their emotions, behaviors and physical condition. Caring for a patient on hemodialysis carries a heavy burden that affects the overall health status and quality of life of the caregiver.
