Introduction:
unplanned urban growth contributed to the emergence of a multitude of slums. Santa Clara city does not escape from this situation because houses were built in non-urbanized or authorized places, lacking the necessary conditions to reduce vulnerability to disasters.
Objective:
to characterize social, demographic and environmental variables of a non-urbanized community to clarify its vulnerability to disasters.
Methods:
an observational and descriptive research was carried out from January to December 2017 in the suburban population of the 17-15 doctor´s office belonging to ‟Chiqui Gómez Lubián” University Polyclinic in Santa Clara, which consults the population surrounding the oxygen plant when passing the beltway to the limits with the poultry slaughterhouse.
Results:
social, demographic, epidemiological and environmental aspects of this community were identified, which determined their vulnerability to disasters.
Conclusions:
the identified aspects were very useful to draw up preventive and educational strategies for disasters.
Keywords : vulnerability analysis; vulnerable populations; disasters.
