A bibliographical revision on interaction and participatory techniques was done to improve the quality of the students’ performance in the English lessons at Mariana Grajales Medical School. This review was intended to provide the teachers of English as a foreingn language with some tools to overcome the difficulties that are present in the teaching- learning process nowadays. Some suggestions of useful techniques were given with practical examples of activities that can be used in the beginning, intermediate and advanced levels, that is, general English and English for specific purposes. The authors’ experiences have been used and the students’ problems and interests were taken into account to devise the exercises. Several suggestions were also included in the annexes to provide teachers and students with authentic materials that provide a study in depth on cultural and historical issues or events, so that their knowledge regarding these aspects increases.
