The microscopic colitis syndrome defines diseases characterized by chronic watery diarrhea of more than four weeks of evolution accompanied by other digestive syndromes. It is frequent in female patients of 50 years or more. It is associated with risk factors such as smoking, alcohol and drug intake. This disease is also related to patients suffering from autoimmune disease. In medical examination radiological and endoscopic findings were normal in 80% of the cases. Diagnose is obtained by means of histological studies of de colon mucosa which include collagenous and lymphocytic colitis. In the present study, an updated review was carried out on this topic, which included epidemiological aspects, clinical features, diagnosis and treatment.
