Diagnosis is vital to differentiate its three presentation modes: minor, major and herpetiform aphthae. Painful ulcers are oral manifestations of systemic diseases. Most recent articles which emphasis on diagnosis, symptoms and etiopathogenesis were chosen. These aspects are the basis for diagnosis and accurate treatments by doctors and stomatologists.
