Introduction:

High Education Institutions (HEI) face immense challenges in terms of management methods that facilitate a more efficient and competitive functioning; it is also known that there are resource limitations, which require the incorporation of modern management techniques that effectively contribute to decision making for the assurance of substantive processes.

Objective:

to evaluate the management of material and financial assurance in cuban medical science institutions.

Methods:

a procedure for the management of material and financial assurance based on strategic, systemic and integrated approaches was developed. For the implementation of the procedure, the universities of medical sciences from Holguín, Camagüey, Villa Clara and Havana were chosen.

Results:

the information obtained allowed us to evaluate the management of material and financial assurance in four cuban institutions of medical sciences; as a result, it is seen that the activities with the greatest difficulties are related to infrastructure and university services.

Conclusions:

through the diagnosis of the activities that are part of the material and financial assurance (economic planning, financial administration, accounting, commercialization, infrastructure, logistics, vitality of the institution and university services) it was possible to detect the main deficiencies that affect the conditions of study, work and life of the university community.

From these, improvement actions were designed, which contributes to increase satisfaction of the university community and the society.

Keywords : material and financial assurance; systemic; integration; continuous improvement.
