Abstract

Communication is fundamental for educational purposes and for attaining positive health indicators in diabetes mellitus individuals. This article reviewed the national and international literature on this topic and presented some of its main elements: complex nature, factors involved in the communicational process, the traditional approach to it and some alternative communication strategies; it also shared reflections with the readers on the good and the bad things of communication in this area and referred to some elements considered as limitations or barriers to communication. Recommendations were made for communication work from two action dimensions that should systematically be part of health education and care aimed at diabetic persons.
