Abstract

RODRIGUEZ GONZALEZ, Islay; ALVAREZ MATURELL, Elvio L  and  FERNANDEZ MOLINA, Carmen. Aplicación de la hemaglutinación de Treponema Pallidum en el diagnóstico de la sífilis venérea. Rev Cubana Hig Epidemiol [online]. 2002, vol.40, n.2, pp. 108-111. ISSN 1561-3003.

The hemagglutination of Treponema pallidum was applied as a specific and confirmatory test to 218 reactive sera by VDLR and RPR "non-treponemal" tests of the 576 sera from individuals with clinical and epidemiological suspicion of syphilis and with suspicion of congenital syphilis, from pregnant women, HIV/AIDS patients, blood donors, subjects with reactive VDLR serologies from other medical assistance centers, patients with leptospirosis, infectious mononucleosis, tuberculosis, rheumatoid fever and hepatitis, diabetes, elderly persons and others. These samples were received at the Laboratory of Spirochaetae of "Pedro Kouri" Tropical Medicine Institute from September, 1996, to September, 1999. It was found that 41.74 % were false positive. This paper showed how useful it is to combine the "non-treponemal" tests with the treponemal ones for diagnosing venereal syphilis.
