Abstract

RODRIGUEZ SALVA, . Armando  and  TERRY BERRO, Blanca. Guía práctica para la fase de emergencia en caso de desastres y poblaciones desplazadas. Rev Cubana Hig Epidemiol [online]. 2002, vol.40, n.2, pp. 112-120. ISSN 1561-3003.

Disaster epidemiology has had variuos applications related to the classification of the observations of the effects of disasters on the health of the population, to the use of surveys and of other techniques to collect data, as well as to the establishment of health surveillance designed to monitor the effects after a disaster. The epidemiological methods are mainly applied to relief operations, both in the emergency and recovery stage. The interdisciplianry character of epidemiology allows to go beyond the simple addition of concepts and practices of epidemiological surveillance to contribute to have a comprehensive synthesis of knowledge about specific topics, such as environmental health, medical services and vector control after the disasters. A fast guide is prepared in this paper, starting from the updated review of national and international literature that serves to help the health personnel to manage the emergency phase in case of disasters and displaced populations.
