Abstract

The performance of daily tasks expose teachers to diverse risk factors that may to trigger different health problems. OBJECTIVE: To characterize the vocal health-job conditions of some teachers of a public university of Bogotá D.C., Colombia. METHODS: A cross-sectional and descriptive study was conducted in 38 teachers of three faculties of a public university of Bogotá who were selected in a random way using the selection criterion of 2:1 (relation professor classroom). Present research spares the national ethics parameters and it was carried out after to obtain the authorization of educational institution, the informed consent of participants and the approval of the project by the ethics committee. RESULTS: From the assess teachers, the 60,5% was men, whereas the 39,5% was women. From the total of sample, the 42,1% had communication and allergic disorders, the 10,5% was smokers and the 7,9% consume alcohol at least once a week. Most of sample declared noise exposition and the 39,5% had vocal problems in some of the measured features by GIRBAS scale.A high percentage of teachers reported exposition to noise in its workingplace and to attract attention on the significance of implementing promotion health programs in working places to generate healthy working environments. Although some institutions, to implement the occupational health programs, use chats and courses like prevention communication strategies, found behaviors and habits of wrong vocal hygiene in the group of assessed population spite of assistance to the called events of «preventive» character, which demonstrated the need of implement different actions offering effectiveness alternatives of vocal hygiene and care.
