TORRES GARCIA, Caridad et al. Hopes and realities. Course on Medical Emergencies and School Health 2006 -2007. Rev Ciencias Médicas [online]. 2007, vol.11, n.4, pp. 90-97. ISSN 1561-3194.
The project "Latin American Medical Schools" developed in Cuba for the formation of doctors in Medicine for the world needs the collaboration of professionals specialized in Health Branches. Nursing professionals are being trained in courses with the purpose of teaching the subjects "School Health" and "Medical Emergencies" to the students enrolled in these institutions, assessing the results of this training course is the aim of this descriptive and longitudinal study. Thirty students represented the sample taken, the variants used were: teaching results, source of health care (primary or secondary), professional experience of the teaching staff and introduction of new contents. Results were recorded in tables and percentages, observing that the contents corresponded to the graduate profile with an essential link of theory and practice. 100% of the students belonged to Primary Health Care, showing experience in disease prevention and health promotion. The majority of the students finished the training course from 90 to 100 scores in the evaluations. For the achievement of these results the selection of an experienced teaching staff with a high scientific and technical level played a very important role.
