Abstract

MURO ROJA, Lizandra et al. Information level, attitudes and practices on oral cancer and its risk factors. Gac Méd Espirit [online]. 2022, vol.24, n.1, pp. 38-45.  Epub Apr 01, 2022. ISSN 1608-8921.

Background:

There exist few references on the information level, attitudes and practices about oral cancer and its risk factors in the population aged 35 to 59 years.

Objective:

To determine the information level, attitudes and practices of the population aged 35 to 59 years on oral cancer and its risk factors.

Methodology:

A cross-sectional descriptive observational study was conducted between November 2020 and April 2021. 33 patients were included by stratified sampling with proportional allocation (sampling fraction of 7 %) to the scope of the stratum (age groups) from the Family Doctor´s 2 in the Sancti Spíritus South area. The variables studied were: age, sex, information level, attitudes and practices related to oral cancer and its risk factors. Theoretical, empirical and statistical-mathematical methods were used.

Results:

Male predominance was observed (57.6 %), in addition to a moderately sufficient information level (45.5 %). Attitudes and practices towards oral cancer were non-favorable (78.8 % and 84.8 % respectively).

Conclusions:

The information level was moderately sufficient in the studied population; attitudes and practices related to oral cancer and its risk factors are non-favorable.

Keywords : Oral cancer; mouth neoplasms; health knowledge; attitudes and practice; risk factors.
