Abstract
MIRANDA CASTANEDA, Luis Fidel. Diagnosis of sea water intrusion situation south of Ciego de Ávila. RIHA [online]. 2012, vol.33, n.1, pp. 81-90. ISSN 1680-0338.
This work deals with present-day diagnosis of sea water intrusion situation and its behavior through time, with the objective of knowing its spatial distribution to accomplish a correct aquifer management without environmental drawbacks. At the same time it can be used as a base line to confront future effects of climatic change in the area south of Venezuela town down to the coast line. In this work several data were analyzed: aquifer exploitation, rain, depth to water table and total dissolved solids concentration during dry seasons of 1981, 1985, 1987, 1988 and 2010. A relationship was established between average depth to the water table and maximum advance of sea water intrusion from shore. It was found the average water table depth that cannot be exceed in hydrogeological sector CA-II-1 to prevent sea water intrusion inside hydrogeological sectors of southern basin (Ciego basin).
Keywords : aquifer exploitation; aquifer management; fresh-salt water relationship; sea intrusion; total dissolved solids.
