Abstract

GARRIDO MONAGAS, Maray; GOMEZ CRESPO, Modesto R.  and  LEON MENDEZ, Alcides. Automated system for early warning of potential flooding. RIHA [online]. 2013, vol.34, n.3, pp. 30-43. ISSN 1680-0338.

Floods are one of the natural disasters more affecting Cuba. In the Hydraulic Research Center (CIH) belonging to the Faculty of Civil Engineering of the Instituto Superior Politécnico José Antonio Echeverría (Cujae) is being developed the design of an automated system capable of supporting decision-making at the occurrence of floods. The latter will provide the authorities, which are responsible for an eventual evacuation, to make more accurate decisions. Flood modeling is a complex process involving multiple factors both natural and social. The article makes an analysis of the concepts, tools, and methodologies that are considered important in the study of floods, reflecting the current state of the system in the proposed solution.

Keywords : early warning; flood; flood modeling; deferred time; real time.
