Abstract
SALGUEIRO MELIS, Grethel; CORDOVA LOPEZ, Luis F.; LAMAZARES GONZALEZ, Roberto and TELLEZ HENDRICKSON, Yanelys. Application of atmospheric model MM5 for the simulation ofwinds associated to hurricanes . RIHA [online]. 2014, vol.35, n.1, pp. 3-16. ISSN 1680-0338.
In the present investigation the atmospheric model MM5 in its version 3 has been used as platform to obtain the winds produced by meteorological phenomena, more specifically, by hurricanes. In order to establish this model, several simulations with different implementation variants were carried out. Also, four of the strongest hurricanes that have ever come close or across the Cuban islandwere selected as study cases. Based on a statistical analysis for each one of the variants and comparisons made against two NOAA buoys located in the gulf of Mexico, the best option to establish the model MM5v3was decided, taking into account the need to obtain reliable results in the least possible computational time.
