Abstract

MENDOZA GONZALEZ, Rosario; ZAVALA AGUILER, Jorge  and  VILLA INFANTE, Sergio. Review of design flows in Huites dam by rainfall runoff relationships. RIHA [online]. 2014, vol.35, n.1, pp. 77-89. ISSN 1680-0338.

The design of water infrastructure projects usually involves two options for the calculation of maximum discharges: probabilistic analysis of flow data and application of rainfall-runoff relationships. It is important to compare both methods to validate the application of the rainfall runoff models when there is a lack of flow data. In this document it was applied to the Huites basin in Sinaloa, México, whose design was based on historical flow data. Flows for design were obtained for several frequencies, by probabilistic analysis of rainfall data (using Probability Distribution Functions) and applying three rainfall-runoff models: Rational Method, Triangular Unit Hydrograph and Ven Te Chow´s method, comparing results with design values of the main structures of the dam.

Keywords : basin physical characteristics; probability distribution functions; design flows; rainfall-runoff relationships.
