The disposal of the municipal solid wastes in landfills, results in the generation of leachates with high pollutant characteristics, which cause severe environmental impacts on the surface and underground sources of waters. In this work the physico-chemical evaluation of the leachates generated in the Guanabacoa landfill in Havana City was carried out, to propose a treatment system for a new landfill, facilitating a safe disposal to the environment, accomplishing the Cuban normative. The new landfill will be built for a population of 334 226 inhabitants, which generate an estimate of 189 ton/d of solid wastes. By means of the hydrological balance of the landfill the flow of leachate was estimated. The technological proposal includes the following stages: septic tank, anaerobic filter, facultative lagoon and maturation lagoon.
