Abstract

MONTALVO ESTEVEZ, José Francisco; ROMERO LOPEZ, Teresita de Jesús; LOZANO MEDINA, Antonia  and  TIERRA LANDA, José de la Caridad. Luyano river water quality: application of a water quality index. riha [online]. 2019, vol.40, n.3, pp. 3-14.  Epub Sep 30, 2019. ISSN 1680-0338.

The present work describes the application of Canadian Council of Ministers of the Environment Water Quality Index (CCMEWQI) to four stations located in Luyanó river, Havana, Cuba. The river was evaluated from december 2010 to november 2017. CCMEWQI was applied using six parameters of water quality (pH value, dissolved oxygen, biochemical oxygen demand, chemical oxygen demand, total coliforms and fecal coliforms). The index value was 14 which suggests that the river has a poor quality due to the effect of different pollution sources.

Keywords : contamination; water quality index CCMEWQI; Luyanó river.
